Types of media indexed: editorials, regular
columns, essays, fiction; speeches, interviews, statistics, reprints;
bibliographies, directories, resource lists; autobiographies, biographies,
obituaries, memoirs; and reviews: book, film, record, TV, drama, arts,
and multimedia.
The Alternative Press Index (API), a leading guide to the alternative
press in North America, draws citations from some 380 alternative, radical,
and left publications which report and analyze issues of cultural, economic,
political, and social change. Amongst periodicals included are Cineaste,
Environmental Action, Socialist Review, and Women's Review of Books;
90% of publications included herein are not indexed elsewhere. API indexes
editorials, regular columns, essays, fiction; speeches, interviews,
statistics, reprints; bibliographies, biographies, obituaries, memoirs;
and reviews. Coverage begins in 1991.
Anthropological Index Online
The Anthropological Index Online is based on the journal holdings of
The Anthropology Library at The British Museum (Museum of Mankind) which
receives periodicals in all branches of anthropology, from academic
institutions and publishers around the world.

Anthropology Plus provides extensive worldwide indexing of journal
articles, reports, commentaries, edited works, and obituaries in the
fields of social, cultural, physical, biological, and linguistic anthropology,
ethnology, archaeology, folklore, material culture, and interdisciplinary
studies. The index offers excellent coverage of all core periodicals
in the field in addition to local and lesser-known journals. Coverage
is from the late 19th century to the present.

A complete electronic archive covering 11 widely-read American Anthropological
Association (AAA) journals (American Anthropologist, American Ethnologist,
Anthropology and Education Quarterly, Anthropology and Humanism, Archeological

Ethos, Journal of Linguistic Anthropology, Medical Anthropology Quarterly,
NAPA bulletin and PoLAR: Political and Legal Anthropology Review). Other

The AATA is a major reference work for the conservation field. AATA
Online offers all 36 volumes of Art and
Archaeology Technical Abstracts and its predecessor, International
Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works (IIC) Abstacts,
published between 1955 and the present.

The HRAF Files are a collection of mostly primary source materials

International Bibliography of the Social Sciences is compiled by the
British Library of Political & Economic Science of the London School
of Economics & Political Science. This database contains bibliographic
information from an international selection of publications (including
over 2600 journals) in the fields of economics, political science, sociology,
and anthropology. International coverage means that about 30 percent
of records in the database are published in languages other than English.
Records come from more than 100 countries and 70 languages. Most articles
and books not in English are provided with an English title translation.
This database provides citations of journals, books, book reviews, and
chapters when multiple authors have worked on a book. About 100,000
citations per year are added to the database. Coverage includes 1981
to the present
PAIS
International (@CSA) UC

The CSA PAIS International database contains records for all types
of materials in the area of public affairs. Topics covered include agriculture,
banking, demographics, education, environment, finance, government,
law, legislation, political science, social sciences, and statistics.
The database is updated monthly.
Periodicals
Index Online UC Only
Coverage: 1770 - 1993
Periodicals Contents Index, 1770-1995, is an electronic index to millions
of articles published in thousands of periodicals in the arts, humanities
and social sciences since 1770. PCI's scope is world-wide and includes
journals in English, German, Italian, French, Spanish and other Western
languages. The focus of PCI is on journals produced throughout the twentieth
century; journals beginning in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries
which continue into the twentieth are indexes from their inception.
Full text articles are being added to the database, beginning with 200
journal titles, PCI also provides link to full text articles in the
JSTOR database. There are 3,615
journals included so far in PCI Web.

The Social Sciences Citation Index is a multidisciplinary database,
with searchable author abstracts, covering the journal literature of

Use the Chicano Database (@RLG) to retrieve records for all types of
materials in the areas of Mexican-American topics, and since 1992, materials

Central American immigrants. Subject coverage includes art, language,
sociology, public policy, economics, history, literature, politics,
and law. The database is produced by the Ethnic Studies Library, University

The Ethnic NewsWatch database contains news, culture and history from
275 publications of the ethnic, minority and native press. Nearly 998,000
full text articles dating back to 1960 (coverage varies by title) are
available. Updated monthly, Ethnic NewsWatch is searchable in both English
and Spanish, with titles in both languages; more than 200,000 articles
are in Spanish.

GenderWatch is a full text database of publications that focus on the

IIBP Full Text includes current and retrospective (dating back as far
as 1910) bibliographic citations and abstracts from periodicals from
the United States, Africa and the Caribbean–and full text coverage of
25 core Black Studies periodicals (1998 forward). Most IIBP Full Text
records in the current coverage (1998 forward) contain an abstract,
and additionally many IIBP Full Text records contain the corresponding
full text of the original article; some records contain the table of
contents of the journal. Coverage is international in scope and multidisciplinary–spanning
cultural, economic, historical, religious, social, and political issues
of vital importance to the Black Studies discipline. IIBP Full Text
covers a wide array of humanities-related disciplines including art,

Lexis-Nexis Statistical includes all index and abstract records from:
American Statistics Index (ASI) [1973-present], Statistics Reference
Index (SRI) [1980-present], and Index to International Statistics (IIS)
[1983-present]. ASI links to many full-text documents published during
1994- and stored on LEXIS-NEXIS and links to 2,000 publications on federal
agency web sites. Materials abstracted in ASI and IIS are available
on microfiche in the East Reading Room, 2nd Floor Doe Library. Most
of the materials abstracted in SRI are available on microfiche in The
Business Library.

This service gives you access to the entire Dissertations Abstracts
International (print) and Dissertation Abstracts Ondisc (CD-ROM) via
the web. It includes citations for materials ranging from the first
U.S. dissertation, accepted in 1861, to those accepted as recently as
last semester; those published from 1980 forward also include 350- word
abstracts, written by the author. Citations for master's theses from
1988 forward include 150- word abstracts. For these titles, the database
citation includes UMI's order number. The database represents the work
of authors from over 1,000 North American graduate schools and European
universities. With the exception of the U.C. dissertations that may
turn up in your searches, these titles are not free for downloading;
you may, however, buy these titles in a variety of formats, including
PDF. To order titles online you must put them in your shopping cart
by checking the boxes to the left of the citation or by clicking the
"order now" link to the left of the citation. Once you're ready to order,
click the "shopping cart" link in the navigation bar at the top of the
page.
