Setting Google Scholar Preferences

Importing Google Scholar Results into EndNote

Only one reference at a time can only be imported from Google Scholar into EndNote. If you would like to import a large number of search results, we recommend using an article database to search. Tips for importing from these databases are also available.

Step 1: Go to scholar.google.com. Click on the "Revert to old venerable look" link in the bottom left corner. Click on the gear icon in the upper right-hand corner, and then on Scholar Preferences in the drop-down menu.

Step 2: Scroll down to Bibliography Manager.

1. Click the radio button for Show links to import citations into...
2. Use the pull-down menu to select EndNote.
3. Click Save Preferences.

Step 3: Now after you perform a search, there will be an Import into EndNote link below each search result.

Step 4: When you click on this link, you will be prompted to tell your computer what software to use.

1. Choose the Open with radio button and browse to EndNote.
2. If you want your computer to remember to use EndNote to do this in the future, click the checkbox for Do this automatically...from now on.
3. Click OK.
4. EndNote will launch and automatically import the citation.

Importing Google Scholar Results into RefWorks

Step 1: Go to scholar.google.com. Click on the "Revert to old venerable look" link in the bottom left corner. Click on the gear icon in the upper right-hand corner, and then on Scholar Preferences in the drop-down menu.

Step 2: Scroll down to Bibliography Manager.

1. Click the radio button for Show links to import citations into...
2. Use the pull-down menu to select RefWorks.
3. Click Save Preferences.

Step 3: Now after you perform a search, there will be an Import into RefWorks link below each search result.

Step 4: When you click on this link, the RefWorks login page will open; once you have logged in, the citation will be automatically imported.

Getting Articles from Google Scholar with UC-eLinks

Step 1: Go to scholar.google.com. Click on the "Revert to old venerable look" link in the bottom left corner. Click on the gear icon in the upper right-hand corner, and then on Scholar Preferences in the drop-down menu.

Step 2: Scroll down to Library Links.

1. Type "University of California Berkeley" into the search box and click Find Library.
2. Check the University of California Berkeley - UC-eLinks box that will appear.
3. Click Save Preferences.

Step 3: Now after you perform a search, there will be a UC-eLinks link below or to the right of each search result.

To access articles from off campus, you will need to set up the UCB Library proxy server or virtual private network (VPN).
