Finding Books Online

Numerous books are now available electronically, licensed for use at UCB. Some are included in publisher packages or as special subject collections. See the Bioscience Library's Electronic Books page for full-text collections such as ENVIROnetBASE, Springer E-books, ebrary, and Knovel Library.

Use Google Books to search within the contents of millions of books from publishers and libraries worldwide, then use OskiCat or Melvyl to find out if UCB owns the title. Full text can be displayed if out of copyright (published pre-1923); in-copyright books can be partially viewed as "previews" or "snippets."

ACADEMIC SEARCH COMPLETE
Multidisciplinary source for scholarly journal and popular magazine articles; indexes and abstracts articles from more than 10,900 English, Spanish, German, French, Italian and Portuguese sources. Full text is available for over 5300 journals.

AGRICOLA
Agriculture, biotechnology, economics, food and nutrition; indexes journal articles, USDA reports, and some books, with many state agricultural and USDA publications from the early 1900s now being added. Focuses on U.S. publications.

Coverage of literature on mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians. Partial coverage from 1935-1970 and full coverage from 1971 to date, derived from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, National Biological Survey, and the National University of Costa Rica.

Finding Dissertations

DISSERTATIONS & THESES  1861-present; 1997-present for some full text
Provides access to the full text of all dissertations from UC since 1997. The first twenty-four pages from all other dissertations for which images exist online are also available. Also included, with more than 1.5 million entries, is the Dissertation Abstracts International database.
