News	Finding periodical and newspaper articles about companies is an important step in researching any type of company, whether public or private. If the company is relatively small and not public and isn't covered in one of the descriptive directories, news and magazine articles may be the only available source of information. Business & Industry Facts, figures and other information about companies and industries from over 1000 trade and industry publications, newspapers, business dailies and newsletters. * Factiva Factiva's major focus is on "current awareness" and most of the databases concentrate on very recent information about companies, industries, and financial markets. The Publications Library provides access to nearly 6,000 publications, including exclusive access to the full text of the Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, and New York Times, and is updated daily. * Lexis-Nexis Academic Provides the full text of articles in trade journals, newspapers, and magazines. It is excellent for locating information on private firms that mainly are written about in their local papers.
Salaries	Although there are no published lists of starting salaries for companies, you can use the salary surveys listed in Berkeley Business Guide #13 to get an idea of what the average pay for an occupation or industry might be. Chetkovich Career Services at Haas has salary and placement statistics for recent graduates. The Bureau of Labor Statistics also has a Compensation Survey by metropolitan area for a range of occupations.
