Full-time faculty members from an educational institution within the state of California and full-time teachers from public schools (kindergarten through grade 12) can obtain a UC Berkeley Library card entitling them to limited borrowing privileges. A letter on school letterhead and signed by your Department Chair confirming your full-time school affiliation is required at the time of application.
To be eligible to use the Berkeley collections for research, students must be currently enrolled in an accredited California state or community college. Students may purchase a card upon presentation of a valid, current registration card showing an expiration date. The fee is $25 for a six-month card. This card entitles the holder to limited services and does not include: interlibrary borrowing services; access to items on reserve for UC Berkeley classes; access to special databases involving contractual arrangements between the University and the database vendor; remote access to electronic databases requiring a password; special collections such as the Media Center. The number of books that may be charged out on the card is limited to 20 at any one time. Applications must be accompanied by valid identification that includes proof of California residence. Payment for the card may be made by check or money order, payable to The Regents of the University of California, or by Visa, MasterCard, Discover or ATM card.
