Budget Actions Taken in 2006-2007
to redress projected shortfall for 2007-2008
In Fall 2006, the Library projected a budget deficit for 2007-2008 of ~$1,547,000. This was based on estimated inflation rates of
- 2.5% for monographs
- 3% for continuations (e.g., monographic series)
- 8% for serials.
The Library covered this deficit using a combination of strategies. Unspent balances in selector budgets exceeding 50% of their base allocation were redirected toward broader collections budget needs. AUL-managed endowment and gift income was redirected to support memberships, major purchases and other special needs. The Library's budget proposal to campus includes a permanent 9% collections budget increase, 4% supplied from central funds and 5% committed from Library development efforts.
