Scope of Collection
The collection is selected to support the Departments of Earth and Planetary Sciences, Geography, and Seismology Lab.
Strengths
We collect at the research level, with particular strengths in
- the Geosciences including structural geology, tectonics, oceanography, seismology, geochemistry, geomorphology, glaciology, geophysics and planetary science.
- Geography including physical geography, climatology and GIS.
- Cartography and Maps including historical, practical cartography and surveying. Map collection emphasis in order of priority: San Francisco Bay Area, Northern California, Western U.S. States, Mexico and all other areas of the world, topographic sets at various scales and dates, aerial photographs mainly of Northern California, atlases and gazetteers.
- online journals in primary subject areas, digital and online geoscience reference resources and databases, digital and on line maps, atlas and gazetteers.
Special Collections
Monographic collection published pre 1900. Collections of 130 digital topographic sets in various scales. Digital aerial photographs covering San Francisco Bay area.
Primary Languages and Formats
The primary language is English, however the library collects in all languages especially for maps and atlases in Western and Eastern European, Middle Eastern and south and Southeast Asian languages. The collections includes all formats, print and online; microforms, CDs, DVDs, print and digital maps, atlas and gazetteers, globes, and aerial photographs.
