Scope of Collection
Japanese language monographs and serials are acquired at research level for most areas of the humanities and social sciences with an emphasis on Japanese history, language and literature, philosophy, religion, politics, economics, business, social conditions, fine arts, archaeology, anthropology, architecture, music, movie, etc. Also acquired at research level are materials on Chinese and other East Asian countries on history, philosophy, religion, politics, economics, international relations, fine arts, etc. Reference materials, AV materials and digital resources are also collected selectively.

- Edo manuscripts (shahon) - Over 2,700 titles of pre-1868 hand-written books.
- Edo and Meiji maps - Over 2,300 titles of old cartographic materials.
- Murakami Collection - Over 7,000 titles of modern Japanese literature first editions from Meiji and Taisho eras (1868 - 1925)
- Others, such as rare screens, sugoroku games, scrolls, etc.
