Scope of Collection
The collection is selected to serve the Department of Mathematics, Department of Statistics, and the Group in Logic and the Methodology of Science.
It includes all areas of pure and applied mathematics, the mathematical and research methods of statistics, the mathematics and theory of computer science, and logic and the methodology of science. It also includes the collected works of mathematicians and statisticians, both contemporary and historical. Most graduate-level textbooks are purchased, and many advanced undergraduate textbooks, but very few introductory undergraduate texts are purchased unless authored by Berkeley faculty or requested for course reserves.
Primary Languages and Formats
All languages, though primarily English. Historical strength in Russian, German, and French mathematics. The primary formats are print and online monographs and journals. The journal collection is especially strong, including major journals from commercial publishers, all publications from English-language mathematical societies, and a wide range of publications from mathematical departments and research units around the world.
Related Collections
The Mathematics Statistics Library has subject affinities and occasional overlap with the Engineering, Physics, Business, and Doe libraries. Subject affinities within Doe include logic, history of science, philosophy of science, and applied statistics.
