Borrowing and Renewing
Circulation
All UC Berkeley faculty, staff, and students have borrowing privileges using
their UC Berkeley picture ID. The IDs of enrolled students are automatically
activated in the Library system. Faculty and staff may need to visit the Main Library's Privileges Desk before checking out EAL materials. Stanford graduate students and faculty
have also recently been added to the UC Berkeley Library circulation system.
Faculty, staff and students from other UC campuses can obtain a UC Berkeley
library card by presenting a current employee ID card or student ID at the Privileges Desk .

Renewals
Library cardholders may renew their own items through OskiCat. All items may be renewed online except for reserve materials and items on which you owe fines.
How to renew:
- Go to OskiCat (link opens new window).
- Click the My OskiCat link in the top right corner of OskiCat screen.
- Log in using your name, UCB ID number or Library card number, and your library PIN.
- Select the items you wish to renew by checking the boxes in the RENEW column.
- Click the Renew Selected button.
- If you wish to renew all your items at once, click the Renew ALL button.
- If your items are renewed successfully, a new due date will appear in the STATUS column. If you cannot renew items, an error message will appear on the screen. Always check the STATUS column for information on the success or failure of your renewal.
In person
You may renew material in person at the circulation desk of the lending
library. You must bring the material and your library card with you in
order to renew them.
Exceptions
You may not renew:
- any item that was not originally checked out on the OskiCat system
- items which are overdue to the point that they have blocked your borrowing privileges
- bring in the book, it can no longer be renewed
- items that have been recalled by another patron
- items that have been billed for replacement
- bring in the book, it can no longer be renewed, credits may apply
- items with a 2-hour or same-day circulation period
- some items with a 1-day circulation period
Return materials
Return materials to the circulation desk during library hours. After hours, return books to a library book drop. Refer to the lending library for information on returning non-book materials. Return interlibrary loan materials to 133 Doe.
If you return books in person, return receipts may be requested from a circulation desk for returned material. Materials damaged or incomplete should be brought immediately to the owning library circulation desk to discuss repair or replacement options that may be available. The Library does not keep a record or receipts issued.
If you have further questions about library privileges and accounts, email the Privileges Desk.
