Tests Bibliographies

This is a brief guide to searching for reviews and citations about tests and measurements in psychology and education at the Education Psychology Library at the University of California, Berkeley.

Except for tests in the public domain that appear in books that compile such instruments, the Education Psychology Library does not maintain a collection of tests still under copyright. Tests can be identified, and sometimes found in full-text, by using databases and indexes, such as Buros Mental Measurements and PsycInfo. EDP does subscribe to APA's new PsycTests which is a research database that provides access to psychological tests, measures, scales, surveys, and other assessments as well as descriptive information about the test and its development and administration. The EDP Reference collection does contain several print compilations of full-text tests and scales available in the public domain, as well as indexes to tests, test reviews and literature. These compilations and indexes are indicated below.

Mental Measurements Yearbook. (1933-)
LB1131.1 M4 EDP Reference Collection. The Yearbooks contain reviews and references to new and revised commercially published English language tests. Indexes include title, author, classified subject, score, and publisher. Also called "Buros" for its founder, Oscar Krisen Buros.

Tests in Print: an Index to Tests, Test Reviews, and the Literature of Specific Tests. LB1131.1 T47 1999. EDP Reference Collection.
Tests in Print (TIP) is an index to tests which have been reviewed in the Mental Measurements Yearbooks and which are currently available fro publishers. Indexes include title, author, classified subject, score, and publisher.

Reviews commercially published tests in psychology, education and business. Latest volume contains title, author, and subject indexes to all previous volumes.

PsycInfo
Search PsycInfo, the American Psychological Associations's index to the journal literature, by typing in a test name and selecting the "tests and measurements" field. If you do not know the specific name of a test, simply type in the words "test", "scale", "questionnaire" and select the "tests and measurements" field.

PsycBooks and PsycTests. PsycBooks is a full-text database that provides electronic access to thousands of scholarly and professional book titles published by APA, including recent titles in psychological and behavioral science, plus a substantial backfile of classic and historic works. PsycTests is a research database that provides access to psychological tests, measures, scales, surveys, and other assessments as well as descriptive information about the test and its development and administration.

These volumes direct the reader to journal articles containing mental measures devised for research. See the latest volume for subject and author indexes to the citations and short entries.
