The Interlibrary Lending Service (ILL) provides access to the holdings of the UC Berkeley Libraries through interlibrary loan of original material. Regular and rush service is available. Photoduplication services and fees are described in a separate web page. A fee-based Special Library Access service is available for local Bay Area libraries.

California Libraries:

Loan service is available for all libraries in California.

Other US and Canadian Libraries:

Loan service is available to academic, public, and special libraries.

Other Foreign Libraries:

Loans are not available.

Individuals:

Loans are not available.

OCLC requests:

List CUY twice consecutively in the Lender String.

Web Form

Use our ILL form to submit request electronically.

Fax requests:

Use ALA form or company letterhead -- a separate form or page for each title or article. If possible, form or letterhead should be typed.

Mail requests:

Use of the standard ALA form is preferred. If possible, form should be typed.

Telephone requests are not accepted.

Books:

Will lend monographs for 7-21 days. Will not lend current or previous year English language imprints, proceedings of the past three years, reference/reserve material, double/triple folios, or rare books. Book loans are Non-Renewable.

Periodicals:

Will not lend bound or unbound periodicals.

Dissertations and theses:

If second copy is available, will lend to California libraries and out of state academic libraries only. Loan period is 14 days from receipt, library use only, copying not permitted.

Newspapers:

If on microfilm, will lend for 14 days for Library Use Only.

Microform/Other Media:

Most microform available for loan for 14 days. Microfiche, software, audio/visual material, maps and other media items are non-circulating.

Government Documents:

Generally available for loan. Census material and congressional hearings are non-circulating.

Material is shipped via FedEx Ground Service. For expedited shipping, provide your FedEX account number (Rush fees may apply). For returns, a traceable method of shipping is preferred.

We accept payment by invoice or IFM. We do not accept any vouchers as payment for ILL activity.

California libraries:

$15.00 loan fee for up to four volumes/reels of one title. Invoices sent monthly. Prepayment is not required. No charge for public libraries covered by state library funds (PLF).

Out of state libraries:

$20.00 loan fee for up to four volumes/reels of one title. Invoices sent monthly. Prepayment is not required.

Rush processing fee:

Additional $20.00 rush processing fee for 24-48 hour turnaround time.
Rush requests must be received by 2:00pm in order to be processed for same-day shipment.

Loan service outside California suspended for the last two weeks of December.
