Korean Collections Consortium Announcements

- New Korean Studies Librarian at Stanford East Asia Library

It is my great pleasure to announce Dr. Kyungmi Chun to begin her work at Stanford East Asia Library on February 1, 2007. Dr. Kyungmi Chun has accepted Stanford's offer to be the Korean Studies Librarian in the East Asia Library last November. I am delighted to welcome Kyungmi to join us. Kyungmi earned her doctoral degree in Information Science at the University of North Texas in 1999, an MLS degree from the University of Tennessee, and a bachelor’s degree in history from Hanyang University, Seoul, Korea. Kyungmi has served as the Korean Specialist Librarian in the University of Hawaii, at Manoa’s Asian Collection since 1992. During her more than 14 years at the University of Hawaii, at Manoa, Kyungmi's responsibilities have included collection development and management, reference and public services for the Korean Collection. Beyond her breadth of work experiences in academic libraries, Kyungmi will bring her boundless enthusiasm and a solid work ethic for the building of our new collection. We are very fortunate to have her expertise and enthusiasm included in our mix of terrific staff and eagerly anticipate her contributions we expect her to make to the East Asia Library.

- New Korean Librarian at University of British Columbia

It gives me great pleasure to welcome Helen Kim, our new full-time Korean librarian who will assume duty, February 1, 2007. After obtaining her MLS at Columbia University in 1986, Helen took up counseling in Canada before joining the Asian Library at UBC library in 2003 as the Korean cataloguer. The position of Korean librarian became vacant in mid-December last year when our beloved Lucia Park left the library field or greener turf. Lucia graciously undertook to remain our supporter and would help the Asian Library in other capacity. Beginning January 2007, Jing Liu, Chinese Language Librarian started her year-long study leave, working on a MAPPS program at UBC. In the meantime, we are still in the process of recruiting a replacement for her position.
