27th Biennial Groundwater Conference
and 18th Annual Meeting of the
Groundwater Resources Association of California

October 6-7, 2009
Sacramento Convention Center
Sacramento, California

Water Crisis and Uncertainty: Shaping Groundwater's Future

About the Conference:
The University of California organized the first statewide groundwater conference in 1957 for professionals in water sciences to engage in discussions of policy, management and technical issues in a colloquium atmosphere. Since then, the Biennial Conference has strived to reach out to all stakeholders and interested parties and provide policy makers, practitioners, researchers, and educators the opportunity to learn about the current policies, regulations, and technical challenges affecting the use and management of groundwater in California.

Sponsors of the Biennial Conference now include public agencies, professional organizations, and a nonprofit educational organization. The most recent Conference (2007), also in Sacramento, California, drew over 300 participants.

Water Crisis and Uncertainty: Shaping Groundwater's Future.

California is facing an unprecedented water crisis spawned by climate change, drought, legal decisions, a failing Delta ecosystem, and a faltering economy. Groundwater will necessarily play an important role in dealing with this crisis, and decisions during this time may cause groundwater policies to change in dramatic ways.
