About this Guide

UC Berkeley library resources for nuclear engineering.

Find Articles

The databases listed below include journal articles and conference papers in the subject areas of nuclear engineering and energy.

For a full list of article databases, see our Article Databases page.

Off-campus Access

To access UCB Library resources from off campus, configure your machine using one of two simple methods (Proxy Server is the quickest and easiest):

Proxy Server
After you make a one-time change in your web browser settings, the proxy server will ask you to log in with a CalNet ID when you click on the link to a licensed resource. See the setup instructions, FAQ, and Troubleshooting pages to configure your browser.  Follow these steps to check your proxy configuration.

VPN (Virtual Private Network)
After you install and run the VPN client software on your computer, you can log in with a CalNet ID to establish a secure connection with the campus network.

Nuclear Engineering Journals

Find out which nuclear engineering journals titles we have online by using our E-journals A-Z database.

Search for journal title:

Or, see the full list of e-journals for nuclear engineering.

Citation Linker

If you have a citation, use the UC-eLinks Citation Linker to find the full-text.

Journal Title and Date are required fields.  Enter as much information as you have about the publication.

Find books and e-books

Use the OskiCat catalog to find library items at UC Berkeley.

Use the Melvyl catalog to look in all UC campuses.

You can refine your search to e-books and other online resources by using the Available Online limiter when you are in the OskiCat catalog.

Find Technical Reports

Energy Citations Database
Index to energy-related research sponsored by the Department of Energy (DOE) and its predecessors — the Energy Research and Development Administration (ERDA) and the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) — from 1948 to the present. Links to full text for many recent reports.

National Technical Reports Library (NTRL)
UCB access only

NTRL is the gateway to indexes, abstracts, and technical reports of the National Technical Information Service (NTIS). The NTIS archives reports from the Departments of Defense, Energy, Transportation, Agriculture, Health and Human Services, and other government agencies. Some full text available.

Citation Management Tools

Citation management tools help you manage your research, collect and cite sources, and create bibliographies in a variety of citation styles.  Each one has its strengths and weaknesses, but any are easier than doing it by hand!

  1. RefWorks - free for UC Berkeley users. It allows you to create your own database by importing references and using them for footnotes and bibliographies. Use the RefWorks New User Form to sign up.

  2. EndNote: may be purchased from UC Berkeley's Software Central.Supports many citations styles in science and engineering.

  3. Zotero: A free plug-in that works exclusively with the Firefox browser: keeps copies of what you find on the web, permits tagging, notation, full text searching of your library of resources, works with Word, and has a free web backup service.

It's always good to double check the formatting -- sometimes the software doesn't get it quite right.

Style Guides

Publishers' style guides provide instructions for writing an article for one of its publications.  They typically specify the layout and length of the paper, rules for units, graphs and tables, copyright terms, and how to submit the paper.
