Researching planets, stars, comets, galaxies, black holes, or exoplanets?  Use the resources in the Physics-Astronomy Library collections which cover astronomy, physics,astrophysics,cosmology; atomic,molecular and optical physics; condensed matter; experimental particle physics; theoretical high energy physics, nonlinear dynamics; galaxies, planets,mathematical, chemical and biophysics.

Current UCB faculty, students, staff and patrons in the library have access to licensed resources & material such as journals (print & electronic),books (print & electronic), databases, indexes, data and citation management software. The Library collects videos and DVDs of colloquia and visiting lecturers, some are online.

Before you can access UCB Library resources from off campus, via your laptop or other mobile devices, you need to configure your computer using one of two methods (Proxy Server is the quickest and easiest):

Proxy Server
After you make a one-time change in your web browser settings, the proxy server will ask you to log in with a CalNet ID when you click on the link to a licensed resource. See the setup instructions, FAQ, and Troubleshooting pages to configure your browser.  Make sure you check the proxy configuration before you start researching.

VPN (Virtual Private Network)
After you install and run the VPN "client" software on your computer, you can log in with a CalNet ID to establish a secure connection with the campus network.

  A multidisciplinary index to articles in more than 10,900 journals and other publications in English, Spanish, German, French, Italian and Portuguese; full-text is available for over 5300 journals.

  Indexes over 5,000 journals, conferences, technical reports and other materials related to the engineering and technical literature and encompasses civil, structural, and mechanical engineering disciplines, as well as related fields in science and management.

  Indexes over 3,500 scholarly journals, books, maps, US and Canadian dissertations, conference proceedings, reports, and government documents published worldwide on geology and other subjects within the geosciences.
  
• IEEE Xplore
  Indexes IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) transactions, journals, magazines and conference proceedings published since 1988 and all current IEEE standards. It also includes IEE publications for the same time period (IEE is the British counterpart to IEEE).

  Provides history, description, properties and uses of all the elements in the periodic table.

Programs such as: Endnote, Refworks, Zotero, allow you to download, collect, share & manage references, PDFs, data, and documents. Some work with word processing to format citations and footnotes in papers and create bibliographies in a variety of styles.

EndNote (Mac, PC, web-based) is a program that you install on your computer & use on the web. EndNote works with word software to format citations, and create bibliographies in many styles. It can be purchased from The Scholar's Workstation or online.

RefWorks (Online) is a web-based bibliographic management service licensed by the library for UCB faculty, staff and students. RefWorks can be used independently or as a complement to EndNote. To use, create an account using the RefWorks New User form.

Zotero (Firefox) is a free Firefox extension that manages citations found online through your browser. Zotero can capture, store citations, pdfs, images and databases. Zotero can create bibliographies in Word and OpenOffice in a limited number of styles.

TeX: is a typesetting language used for technical and scientific document preparation. LaTeX is a program that converts a plain text file into TeX. BibTeX is a tool that can be used with LaTeX to create documents and bibliographies. Endnote has a BibTeX output style that will format your citations into TeX.
