Find Handbooks and Manuals
Handbooks and manuals assist researchers and
professionals with readily available facts and information. While most of
these resources are found in printed volumes in the library, they are very
popular as electronic books.
Electronic Resource Finder
The ERF page offers a selected list of handbooks available online. First
select a subject from the
Subjects A-Z page and then select the Handbooks and Manuals link on the left side (not available for
all subjects).
Subject specialty libraries
Most subject specialty libraries at UC Berkeley have lists of handbooks and
manuals on their websites, sometimes within a section on electronic
books. The best place to find these websites is
the Libraries
and Collections A-Z page.
OskiCat (UC Berkeley)
Includes materials in most libraries on the UC Berkeley campus,
but some important libraries are only partially listed, and some are not
listed at all. To find items in these libraries, check their own catalogs
(or Melvyl, as noted below).
- Type a keyword describing
your broad topic, followed by handbooks. Examples:
nutrition handbooks
engineering handbooks
- You can use the pull-down menu labeled "Entire collection" to limit your
search to a subject specialty library.
NexGen Melvyl Pilot (all UC campuses + worldwide)
Recommended for searching libraries in the UC System and worldwide. It includes WorldCat, a worldwide catalog, but
gives priority to items in the UC libraries. Not all UC materials are in the database yet. See Help
and Frequently
Asked Questions.
Current Melvyl (all UC campuses)
Still available for searching the libraries of the ten
UC campuses, and other research collections in the state. Most of the UC
Berkeley affiliated libraries' collections are included in this catalog. The
search procedure is the same as in OskiCat, above, except you may limit to
UCB, but not by subject specialty library.
