Finding Library Materials with the Melvyl Catalog
Contents:
Melvyl is the library catalog for the University of California. It inventories the books, journals, conferences, and other materials in all libraries throughout the UC system. Use it to locate both print and electronic materials.
Finding Books
Do you already know the book you need? To find it, search for the title and/or the author(s). Use the Advanced Search option.

Click into the Title to find more information: campus locations, call number, availability.

For example:

Note that this record is for the 2003 edition of this book. If you're looking for another edition, click into the View all editions and formats link to see all available editions.
Are you just looking for books on a subject? Try searching for keywords. Use quotation marks if you want to search for an exact phrase (for example, "lean production").

You can limit your search based on library, format, language, content, audience, and year.
Finding Journals
Melvyl contains no information about articles published within journals. But if you know the journal title, you can locate the journal in the library or online (if available).

You can also search for journal abbreviations: j biomed opt.
View Find a copy online for a link to the online version. Find a copy in the library will show you the call number of the physical copy in the library.

Finding Conferences
We recommend that you use the OskiCat catalog to find conferences. Refer to the guide How to Find Conference Proceedings for help.
