Full-time faculty members from an accredited two or four year California college or university,
and full time public school faculty at a
K-12 school may obtain a Library borrowing privileges card.
To obtain a card you should present a letter on school letterhead,
signed by your department chair or principal, confirming your full-time
affiliation with your school and a California driver's license at the Library
Privileges Desk.
The library borrowing card allows you to have a maximum of 20 books
charged out at any one time. Cardholders may not have access to items on
reserve for UC Berkeley classes. Access to some special collections such
as the Media Resources Center is granted selectively.
Remote access to databases involving contractual arrangements between the
University and the database vendor are not available to cardholders. The
restrictions on remote access is a condition placed on the Library by the
database vendors, however most of the electronic resources are available
to you at public computers in the Library.
Privileges were granted to California state college and community
college faculty by an agreement between the state department of education
and UC President Clark Kerr on March 16, 1964. Privileges to public school
teachers were granted by a provision of the budget bill of 1990-91.
