Placing Materials on Reserve: Instructions for Faculty and Instructors
Instructors may place print course materials that are expected to be in high demand or that require special security in the library's reserve section. You may designate shorter loan periods for high demand materials, such as two-hour or one-day. Reserve collections are usually shelved behind the library's circulation desk, where items are paged by call number.
Electronic Course Reserves (bSpace)
Placing Electronic Course Reserve Materials on bSpace
bSpace is the UC Berkeley collaborative learning environment that
enables instructors to create and store course-related materials online.
It is available to students 24-hours a day, seven days a week.
All UC Berkeley students and instructors have existing bSpace accounts.
To access your bSpace account, visit bspace.berkeley.edu/.
To place course materials on reserve in bSpace, you must first create a
site for the course in question. Learn how to do this from a tutorial.
Or visit an Educational
Technology Services workshop for in-person help.
Due to copyright restrictions, placing the print versions of entire
books and journal issues currently under copyright protection on reserve
is often the best action. See the University of
California Copyright web site, particularly "Using Copyrighted Works,"
for more information about the fair use of copyrighted materials.
